Visual Home page

The Visual Home Page is built by adding blocks of content to the page. Initially you can add any number of blocks, selecting from the following content types:

  • General – general information block that can contain a background image or colour and one or more rows of text. Each text row can be displayed in a single or double column format.
  • Challenge - feature a Challenge, including the name, description, workflow, calls to action and up to five ideas.
  • Conversation – feature a Conversation, including the name, description and up to the five most recent comments.
  • Idea Space – feature an Idea Space including name, description and unlimited Challenges and Conversations.
  • Co-creation Community – feature a Co-creation Community including name, description and unlimited Challenges and Conversations.

Add and remove content

Add content

To add content to the Visual Home Page, on the Edit Home Page view, click Add New Block. A list of available content blocks displays; select the block type you would like to add to your home page.

Remove content

To remove content, click the red bin next to the block you want to remove. You will be asked to confirm that you want to permanently remove the content.

Confirm you want to remove the block by selecting Continue or click anywhere outside the message to cancel.

Please note, removing the block from the Visual Home Page does not delete the content from your site, just the block from the home page.

Preview

To Preview your home page before publishing it, click Preview. The page will display in full mode without any of the editing options. To return to edit mode, click the arrow to continue editing.

Publish & Exit

As you are editing your home page, you can save a draft to publish later. An unpublished draft will be visible only to Admins in the edit mode. If you have saved but unpublished changes to your home page, an exclamation point (!) will display next to the Publish & Exit button.

To publish the draft, click Publish & Exit. You will exit edit mode and be redirected to your newly published home page.

Save & Exit

As you add, remove and edit content, the draft home page auto-saves every 2 minutes. In addition, you can manually save your draft by clicking Save & Exit. You will exit edit mode and be redirected to the home page; the saved draft will not be published.

Saving a draft allows you to collaborate with others on the final version of the page before publishing it. Please note, you can only have a single draft of the home page and only one admin can edit the home page at a time.

Edit draft

If there is an unpublished draft, when selecting Edit Home Page in the Admin menu, you will be prompted with the following options:

  • Edit the draft – open the last saved draft in edit mode.
  • Discard the draft –last saved draft will be permanently deleted and you can save a new draft based on the last published version of the home page.
  • Leave – exit edit move without making any changes to the draft.

If there is no unpublished draft, you will be directed immediately to the edit page with the content of the current published version of the home page. You can then begin making the necessary edits and create a new draft.

General block

By default, the General block contains two rows, each displayed in two columns. To add content to these rows, click in one of the text boxes and begin typing. You will have a Rich Text Editor to format the text as desired.

To edit the settings for the overall block, click Settings and the settings panel displays above the block.

 Manage block content

To assist as you edit your content, the initial few words entered in each Rich Text Field displays in the row.

You can include ‘empty’ rows to provide extra ‘white space’ in your content; in this case the row will display ‘intentionally left blank’ to make clear it is an empty row.

New rows are added by clicking Add new row. By default, new rows are added at the bottom but can be rearranged as needed.

For each row you have the following options:

  • Drag and drop content - each row can be moved by dragging and dropping it to a new location.
  • Image - slide the bar to the right to display the selected image behind the row content or to the left to hide the image for that row.
  • Columns - slide the bar to the right to format the row into two columns or to the right to display the row in a single column.
  • Bin - to remove a row from the block, click the bin. The row will be permanently deleted.

Background image

Upload an image to display in the background of the block. You can upload multiple images, but only a single image can be selected per block. As described above, you can select which rows have the background image and which rows have a solid background.

When uploading images, we recommend that you select images with subtle patterns so they do not compete with the content in the block.

Background colour

In addition to the image, you can select a background colour for the block from the colour picker or by entering its six-character HEX code. Any row that does not have the background image will have the solid colour background.

Challenge block
